Night Night, Sleep Tight

Well, a little over a week ago we finally reached our breaking point of not sleeping. Lila was still waking up between 4-10 times a night and was up an hour or longer multiple times. All three of us were completely exhausted! We decided we needed to stop picking Lila up every time she started crying during the night. We still go in and rub her back, but she stays in the crib. We have also started insisting that grandma makes her take two naps a day. It's not always easy getting her to nap, or not picking her up at night, but it seems to be working. We are so thrilled to announce that Lila is actually sleeping! We were shocked that such minor changes could lead to such huge results almost instantly. We are only waking up 1-3 times a night, and are rarely ever up for more than 10 minutes! It is amazing! Lila is also so much happier and agreeable during the day! We're keeping our fingers crossed that we keep progressing and everyone keeps getting a decent night of sleep.

What great progress! Your Lila is such a beautiful girl and obviously very smart to be able to adjust so quickly. Happy for all of you, sleep is VERY important. Love that pic of her sleeping, what a cutie.

Hi Becky,

I just found your blog again a few days ago. I followed it until it was password protected. You could be describing our daughter Maia (who came home in March) when your describe Lila's sleeping habits. It tooks us 2-3 months to get it worked out and even then it wasn't a perfect schedule. We finally did what you are now doing and left her in the crib and we also quit giving her a bottle when she woke up. We went into her room, but tried not to get her up and awake. She weaned down to 1-2 times a night and then just once and now not at all (except for when she is teething). The napping scedule was even worse. For so long she only slept for a total of maybe 30 minutes a day. Now she either takes 2 shorter naps or one long afternoon nap. Since she is 15 months old, I think she is getting to the stage that she only needs one. I just wanted to tell you that you are not alone. I have talked to so many people whose babies weret the same way. It was very frustrating and tiring. Thankfully, it has gotten much better. If I can be of any help or answer questions, just ask.
